The Municipal Elections are the local government elections which occur every six (6) years where people vote for the Municipal councillors who run the administration of the cities. These elections happen in the five municipal councils in Mauritius:

Each of the cities are divided into wards, and voters elect four (4) councillors per ward to sit in the municipal councils.

While the electoral framework of Mauritius does not explicitly prescribe a term limit for elected councillors, the duration of their term is inferred from the Local Government (Amendment) Act 2015, which mandates that municipal elections must be held every six (6) years.

The last Municipal elections in Mauritius were held on 14 June 2015 as per section 11 of the Local Government Act 2011 which legislated that municipal polls be held in 2015 and thereafter Municipal Elections were supposed to be held every 6 years, 2021, 2027 etc. However, in line with an amendment to section 12 A(1) of the Local Government Act 2011 in 2021, the Municipal elections scheduled for 2021 were postponed for two (2) years to 2023 due to the public emergency brought about by COVID-19. Subsequently, the Municipal Elections scheduled for 2023 were further postponed to 2025 by Parliament due to the need to reform the framework of local government elections.
